Needlework Tapestry Sampler by Margaret Langburn, Pickering School 1842

Early Victorian Needlework Tapestry Sampler. 

Delightful tapestry sampler believed to have been the work of a school pupil from Pickering in North Yorkshire during the early years of Queen Victoria's reign.

This fine work was originally housed within a glazed frame but the frame was damaged.
The sampler has been removed but remains mounted on it's inner frame. This frame was backed with paper which although torn, is marked to the reverse 'Margaret Langburn, 1842 Pickering School'.

We believe the frame was original to the piece and as such the fabric has been protected and is in extremley good condition. We have not found any damage to the work.

Size: Approx. 11.875 x 13.875" from corner to corner of frame

Antique Tapestry Sampler in very good condition.

We have discovered a little provenance that may be of interest:
Margaret Langburn;
Born 1826 - Died 1846 on 5th Dec - Aged just 20.
In 1841 she attended Pickering Seminary School with her sister Ruth. (Ages 15 and 14).
(Mary King was the proprietor of the school and had 5 Pupils- they may have lived in.)
Father: William Langburn
Born 1789-1861 (His Mother Ruth).
Occupation: Farmer of 60 Acres.
Mother: Mary, born 1791
Sister: Ruth (1827-1904) - Unmarried.
Brother: John Rymer Langburn 1829 -1891- Unmarried.
Brother:Thomas Ness 1831-1905 - Married.
Lived at Ings House (Later Called Ings Farm) Fylingdale Yorkshire
